The Roland Garros Junior Series starts this Wednesday (3), at Sociedade Harmonia de Tênis, in São Paulo. The competition runs until Sunday and will offer places in the main draw of the Grand Slam youth tournament on French clay. All matches will have live broadcast on ESPN on Star+.

What is the Roland Garros Junior Series?

The tournament was born as a result of a collaboration between the French Tennis Federation (FFT), the South American Tennis Confederation (Cosat) and the Brazilian Tennis Confederation (CBT). There will be 32 tennis players, 16 boys and 16 girls, all under 16 years old and from 11 different countries in Latin America.

The competition system is simple: players will be divided into four groups of four players each, and everyone will play against everyone within their own bracket. The best two in each qualify for the semifinals, and the winners go to the final. The men’s and women’s champions guarantee a place in the main draw of Roland Garros Júnior, the Grand Slam youth tournament in France.

Who is going to play?

Brazil will be represented by 11 tennis players in total. In the men’s category, Pedro Chabalgoity, Luiz Augusto Miguel, Pedro Dietrich and Washington Matos qualified; in the women’s category, Pietra Rivoli, Nauhany Silva, Sofia Albieri and Alicia Reichel. In addition to them, three other tennis players received invitations, so-called wild cards, from the CBT: Thomas Miranda, Leonardo Storck and Isabeli Andreola.
