Batman has been seen from many angles. But we still don’t have a cinema version – and the original material is great!
Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and, more recently, Robert Pattinson have shaped our image of Batman on the big screen. On television, Kevin Conroy lent his voice to the dark avenger for the Batman animated series. And it was this animated version that gave rise to an often forgotten sequence that shows us Batman as he is still absent on the big screen: Batman of the Future.
What is Batman Beyond about?
In Batman Beyond, time has caught up with Gotham City’s protector. Bruce Wayne is too old to spend his nights fighting crime and needs to resign. He is replaced by young Terry McGinnis.
In his conflict between the nocturnal superhero and everyday private life, video editor Yves draws parallels with Spider-Man. The friendly neighborhood spider has also always drawn its drama from the contrast between Spider-Man and Peter Parker.
Is a Batman Beyond movie coming?
Just a few weeks ago, a member of the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animation team shared concept drawings for a Batman X movie, which raised fans’ hopes. According to their own statements, the idea had already been presented to the studio behind the successful Spider-Verse films, but Warner immediately lowered expectations.
DC’s new strategy under the command of James Gunn does not yet include a project in this direction. However, a Batman Beyond movie could be included under the new banner Elseworldswhich now allows the DC universe to tell stories outside of a unified universe.
