Expocentro will have the largest rooftop solar plant in Santa Catarina

Solar energy is the 2nd largest source of energy in Brazil, surpassing wind energy (generated by the force of the wind), with a 17.4% share in the country’s energy matrix. Brazil is the 6th largest producer of solar energy in the world, behind only China, the United States, Japan, Germany and India according to data from Absolar (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).

Still according to data from the Association, Brazil has around 500 thousand solar energy plants installed, the vast majority in the Northeast and Minas Gerais. But now Santa Catarina will gain another large generator of clean energy, Expocentro Balneário Camboriú has just signed the contract for the construction of the largest rooftop plant in the state. “It is a milestone for the renewable energy sector. With this work, we reaffirm our concern and commitment to the environment. This is another initiative we have in search of sustainability and the Green Seal”, says Djalma Berger, manager of Expocentro.

4,000 solar panels will be installed, occupying 25,000 square meters of roof, with a capacity of 2.75 MW, the equivalent to supplying around a thousand homes. The work will be divided into two stages, in the first stage 1080 solar panels will be installed, which will generate 0.75 MW and in the second stage 2,920 solar panels, which will generate 2 MW.

The total investment for the work will be 5 million, with a return on investment in up to 5 years. In this first stage, the project will meet Expocentro’s current demand.

Sustainability
In the construction of the Expocentro, equipment was used to reduce energy consumption, with LED lighting, rainwater capture and reuse and the use of devices that reduce water consumption. With this project, Expocentro Balneário Camboriú becomes one of the leading companies in Santa Catarina in terms of installed clean energy capacity.
