Civil War, the new feature film directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina) and starring Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura, will soon hit Brazilian cinemas.

Civil War, the newest film by British director Alex Garland (Ex Machina) may also be his last. This is what the filmmaker reinforces in a recent interview with The Guardian. Despite confessing her love for cinema, Garland does not plan to “direct again in the near future”.

Alex Garland is the big name behind A24’s ambitious bet, starring Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura. Civil War, set in the not-so-distant future, explores real-life tensions, imagining a widespread conflict in the US, seen through the coverage of a trio of journalists.

To the The Guardiandespite praising the production company A24, the filmmaker attributes his dissatisfaction with the industry to “pressure”, which does not just come from money: “This comes from the fact that you are asking people to trust in something that, apparently, It doesn’t seem very reliable.”

I actually love cinema, but filmmaking doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It exists in a life and also in a broader context.

Alex Garland also cites the excess of visual effects or even inappropriate behavior towards audiovisual professionals, who are often subject to abuse: “[as atrizes] trust that nudity will be treated with care and respect… [quando] cinema tends not to do that” he exemplifies.

What caused the Civil War in the new film with Wagner Moura?

The cast of Guerra Civil includes, in addition to Kirsten Dunst and Wagner Moura, names like Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman. Civil War premieres on April 18, in theaters.
