The first bean harvest was completed in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, according to the Economic Information released by Emater/RS-Ascar this Thursday (25/04). The results are considered satisfactory, with an estimated cultivated area of 25,264 hectares and an average productivity of 1,930 kg/ha.

As for the second bean harvest, the crops faced management difficulties due to the high humidity caused by rain and dew, combined with the prevailing mild temperatures. This resulted in the postponement of the harvest, which took place between April 19th and 21st. The period of high humidity also favored the emergence of fungal diseases, such as anthracnose, which can compromise product quality and reduce productivity.

According to the state’s information, the area cultivated in the second harvest is estimated at 19,900 hectares, with a projected productivity of 1,568 kg/ha. Despite this, initial harvest results indicate a trend of an 8% increase in relation to initial productivity, but this proportion needs to be confirmed as the harvest progresses.

In several administrative regions of Emater/RS-Ascar, such as Erechim, Frederico Westphalen, Ijuí, Santa Maria and Soledade, different stages of crop development were observed, with variations in yield expectations and phytosanitary conditions.

As for marketing, the weekly price survey indicates a 16.08% drop in the average price of a bag of beans in the state, which went from R$295.97 to R$248.38.
