Warning about repellents:

Furthermore, still in February, Anvisa showed that it was aware of the high demand among the population for the famous repellents. With the growth in the number of dengue cases, many people began to buy the product thinking that they would be protected from the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Faced with this situation, Anvisa, as reported by the CNN Brasil portal, issued a recommendation, to combat the dengue mosquito, the use of repellents regulated by the agency that contain one of the following three substances:

  • IR3535, present in Merck repellents;
  • DEET (NN-diethylmetatoluamide), present in repellents such as Off;
  • Icaridin, present in repellents such as Exposis.

Anvisa reinforces that parents must follow medical advice when applying repellents to children under two years of age. From this age up to 12 years, the agency recommends the use of repellents containing Icaridin or DEET with concentrations of up to 10% a maximum of three times a day.
