Minister of Racial Equality was criticized by federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil-SP) and by internet users

The Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, was criticized on social media when she mentioned the crisis in Rio Grande do Sul to talk about the regularization of voter registration on Tuesday (Mar 7, 2024). She deleted the post on her profile on X (formerly Twitter) after the negative comments.

“In the face of the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul, our government invested more than R$1.5 billion in health, advances in social benefits, assistance to the homeless, food and energy guarantees”, said Anielle. Then, she talks about the end of the deadline to regularize or obtain the voter registration card, and adds: “Voting for those who act in favor of people’s lives and the Brazilian people is what makes reality change”.

The minister was criticized by politicians and other internet users. Federal deputy Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil-SP) said that she he thought it would be a good idea to take advantage of the tragedy that is happening in Rio Grande do Sul to demand votes.”

One user said that “Anielle Franco is the worst name in recent politics.”

Another internet user declared that the minister is the “greatest opposition” to the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

One internet user said that the tweet of the minister was one of the most shameful posts in relation to the catastrophe in Rio Grande do Sul”.
