In the interior of the state of Mato Grosso, a silent but robust transformation is taking place in the agricultural landscape. In the north and northwest region of the state, traditionally known for its vast grain plantations, coffee is emerging as a growing force, especially on small family farms.

This metamorphosis is driven by the tireless work of the Coffee Growers Association of the State of Mato Grosso (Acafemat), led by the president, Douglas Santinni.

With a differentiated approach, Acafemat is bringing cutting-edge technology and technical support directly to the field, enabling local coffee farmers to reach their full potential.

“We believe that investing in the development of small producers is the way to strengthen the entire coffee production chain in our state. Today, Acafemat’s great role is this union with the producer and understanding their needs, so that we can , together with the state government, make his life easier, because small producers really need help from the state and this is the role of Acafemat, especially now, with the fundamental help of deputy Dilmar Dal Bosco, which will be reflected there at the tip for our producer”says Santinni.

Currently, Acafemat’s work is concentrated in 11 key municipalities in Mato Grosso, namely: Alta Floresta, Carlinda, Aripuanã, Castanheira, Colniza, Cotriguaçu, Juína, Juruena, Nova Bandeirantes, Nova Monte Verde and Paranaíta. This region is quickly becoming a kind of “coffee route”, where the exchange of knowledge and experiences between producers is further driving the sector’s growth.

Santinni highlighted that the results are already palpable and that it is family farming that is transforming the north and northwest of Mato Grosso. “Between 2023 and 2024, approximately R$160 million will be transferred to the economy and more than R$6 million in taxes. With the work of Acafemat, in 2025, we will move more than R$200 million, generating revenue of R$11 million for the state government”, explained Santinni.

This meteoric rise is far from reaching its peak. With the strategic investments provided by amendments from State Deputy Dilmar Dal Bosco and the decisive support from the state government, EMPAER, SEAF, city halls and local associations, coffee production in Mato Grosso is projected to reach new heights. For 2025, production is estimated at 350 thousand bags, and by 2028, a monumental leap to 1 million bags.

State Deputy and president of the FPA – Mato Grosso Parliamentary Agricultural Front – Dilmar Dal Bosco, explained that Mato Grosso is emerging as the new coffee power and that investments need to be applied so that the state contributes to the coffee boom through small producers in the family farming.

“Within every small producer there is enormous potential waiting to be unlocked, coffee farming is not just a culture, it is a way of life, and we are committed to supporting those who dedicate their lives to it, the vision shared by Acafemat and its partners is shaping a prosperous future for Mato Grosso, where coffee not only feeds, but also enriches the entire community, in addition to the state government, which is believing in the coffee potential and showing a great interest in contributing to the coffee culture in Mato Grosso ”, concluded Dal Bosco.

Acafemat explained that for small producers, for a long time, there was a lack of access to information, technical knowledge, cutting-edge technology and financial resources necessary to boost their businesses, generating incalculable financial losses and the abandonment of many in the field. “We entered this scenario with proactive action with Acafemat, and we are changing this reality. The association has played a crucial role in democratizing access to these resources, where we will offer training, high-tech implements, coffee seedlings and direct technical assistance to local coffee growers. With this, small producers now have the tools and support necessary to prosper and contribute significantly to the growth of coffee farming in Mato Grosso”, concluded Santinni.

By the end of 2024, the project foresees the donation of 3 million coffee seedlings to small producers, completely free of charge and with the support of the state government.
