Sebrae Minas promotes event to boost small food businesses

Minas Gerais is the third state with the largest number of food businesses in the country. According to data from the Federal Revenue, there are around 173 thousand active enterprises, 60% of which are concentrated in the Center, Zona da Mata and South regions of the state. To further boost small businesses linked to this market, Sebrae Minas promotes the 4th edition of ‘Prepara Gastronomia: innovation and business 2024’. The event takes place on May 6th and 7th, in Belo Horizonte. Registration can now be done at this link.

This year, ‘Prepara Gastronomia’ was expanded. Now, in addition to the capital of Minas Gerais and the Metropolitan Region, the event will also be aimed at the entire state. “Small out-of-home food businesses represent more than 99% of businesses in this segment in Minas Gerais. By expanding the event throughout the state, we are not only valuing Minas Gerais gastronomy, but also providing new opportunities for entrepreneurs from the interior. With passion and creativity, they not only allow us to enjoy exceptional food, but also boost the economy in every corner of Minas Gerais”, says the president of the Deliberative Council of Sebrae Minas, Marcelo de Souza e Silva.

The ‘Prepara Gastronomia: innovation and business 2024’ program includes more than 20 training courses, including lectures, consultancies and class shows. In this edition, activities will be carried out in six environments. At Arena Gestão, market experts will discuss digital reputation, digital marketing, geomarketing, new product launch strategies, artificial intelligence and social networks for small food businesses.

Individual consultancies will also be offered in the Knowledge Arena. Entrepreneurs will be able to clarify doubts and learn more about digital engagement, menu engineering and mystery shopping. At Arena Gastronomia, lectures will be held on gastronomic festivals and business generation strategies in the territories, trends in food, preservation of food culture as an opportunity for communities and companies and the relationship between gastronomy and audiovisual.

At Arena Cozinha Show, big names in Brazilian cuisine have already confirmed their presence. Among the guests are: chocolatier Talita Avelino, Minas Gerais chef Caio Soter, pâtissière chef Mariana Correa, and the winner of the ‘Mestre do Sabor’ program in 2020, chef Dário Costa. Show classes take place on both days of the event, always from 5pm to 6pm, and from 6:10pm to 7pm.

There will also be keynote lectures in the Main Auditorium, starting at 7:10 pm. On the first day, chef Kátia Barbosa will talk about ‘Brazilian popular cuisine’. The next day, the stage will be held by Rubens Catarina, Alex Atala’s right-hand man and executive chef at Grupo DOM. During the lecture, Catarina will explain the importance of reconciling “Leadership, management and operations” in food businesses.

Business

In addition to training and exchanging experiences, the ‘Prepara Gastronomia’ event will also have space for business. One hundred and fifty individual microentrepreneurs (MEI) and micro and small companies (MSE) in the food sector will negotiate more affordable prices with 30 large suppliers of inputs, equipment and digital solutions, at Arena Negócios.

Suppliers include: food and beverage distributors, digital marketing companies, packaging, consultancy and training in the food sector, management systems for bars, restaurants and food businesses, self-guided tour platforms, machinery, as well as management systems and customer relationship. It is worth remembering that between activities, visitors will have the opportunity to visit the ‘Emporium’ and purchase products from participants in the ‘Elas na Gastronomia’ movement – an initiative created by Sebrae Minas to encourage female representation in the management of food businesses outside from home.

’Prepara Gastronomia: innovation and business 2024′ is carried out by Sebrae Minas in partnership with CDL/BH, Abrasel, Faculdade SENAC/MG and Belo Horizonte City Hall, through Belotur.

Results

The last edition of the event, in 2023, brought together around 400 people at the Sebrae Minas headquarters, in the capital of Minas Gerais. The event offered several training courses and generated an expectation of R$4 million during the Business Round. ‘Prepara Gastronomia: innovation and business’ is part of the actions of the ‘Prepara Gastronomia’ program, a Sebrae Minas strategy that offers business support for small food businesses outside the home in the state. The objective is to improve the management of enterprises, prepare them for new market demands and value regional gastronomic vocations and experiences, stimulating not only gastronomy, but also the entire production chain linked to tourism, commerce and services.

In the last two years, the program has benefited more than 3,000 small food businesses in 117 cities in Minas Gerais. By the end of 2024, the forecast is to serve 4 thousand projects in 150 municipalities in Minas Gerais.
