The Social Service course at the Federal University of Sergipe – UFS is celebrating, on March 27th it turned 70 years old. The celebrations begin on April 3rd, with a Solemn Opening Session for Celebrations. The event takes place from 7pm, at the UFS rectory, in São Cristóvão.

According to the vice president of Regional Social Service Council 18th Region (CRESS Sergipe) and member of the event organization, Walisson Hipólito, the solemn session will honor teachers, former teachers, authorities, partner institutions with the delivery of a diploma, for the contribution made to the Social Service course. The University’s choir will be part of the celebration, with a performance that will honor the course’s anniversary.

Also according to Walisson Hipólito, the program to celebrate the 70th anniversary continues throughout the year, “in the month of May we will have two moments of celebration, providing information about the fight for anti-capacityism, in the cities of Itabaiana and Lagarto, actions that will take place in partnership with CRESS. A symposium will take place in August, there will be no shortage of activities to celebrate such an important date for social services in Sergipe”, he says.

The professor at the Social Service department at UFS, Nailsa Araújo, recalls that “the public university is the largest trainer of social workers in Sergipe, a fact that makes us very proud, after all, it has contributed seven decades to the training of social workers”. She also highlights the partnership with CRESS, “the Regional Social Service Council guides, supervises and disciplines the professional practice of social workers, in addition to being partners in various activities that strengthen Social Service in Sergipe”, highlights the professor.

A Social Worker is a professional who works to combat social injustices present in society’s daily lives, aiming to ensure that the population has access to their rights. “It is through our work that we manage to minimize the inequalities that affect the Brazilian population. This occurs through our professional work in the places where social workers work, be they in public policies, in the third sector, among others, in order to operationalize the viability of the population’s rights”.
