DF stands out as the third unit of the Federation with the lowest homicide rate

-

The Federal District is once again a national highlight in terms of crime reduction. This time, it ranks as the third unit of the Federation (UF) with a homicide rate – 8.02% – lower than the national average, which is 18.53%. The data is indicated by the 2024 Public Security Map, produced by the National Secretariat of Public Security (Senasp), of the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), based on data sent by the states and the Federal District, through a new technological tool, the Statistical Data Validator (Sinesp-VDE). The data relates to the comparison of 2023 in relation to 2022. The use of the rate is an international methodology to assess the level of violence in a given place, relating the crime rate to the population.

“This highlight is due to the work that has been developed based on policies guided by the public interest and adopted by the SSP-DF, through the Safer DF Program – Integral Security, and put into practice, with all security forces with bodies of government and civil society. In addition, we constantly evaluate our results, so that adjustments can be made when necessary”

Sandro Avelar, Secretary of Public Security

In addition to São Paulo and Santa Catarina, which occupy the top positions, five other UFs are also below average: Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná.

“This highlight is due to the work that has been developed based on policies guided by the public interest and adopted by the SSP-DF, through the Safer DF Program – Integral Security, and put into practice with all security forces, with bodies of government and civil society. Furthermore, we constantly evaluate our results, so that adjustments can be made when necessary”, explains the Secretary of Public Security, Sandro Avelar. “We always move forward, committed to the same purpose of ensuring that the DF continues to be a reference in security and quality of life, and under the command of governor Ibaneis Rocha, who has increasingly invested in public security with the recomposition of staff, investment in technology , intelligence, training and video monitoring”, he adds.

Each unit of the Federation has a sector responsible for informing the federal body with the data. In the DF, information is provided by the Subsecretariat for Information Management (SGI) of the SSP-DF.

Publications

The Public Security Map joins other important publications, such as the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook, produced by the Brazilian Public Security Forum (FBSP), and the Violence Atlas, developed by the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) in partnership with the FBSP.

Each of these documents is based on different databases and has different methodologies, structures and approaches. Together, they contribute to a more complete understanding of the dynamics of violence in the country.

DF Mais Seguro – Integral Security encompasses coordinated actions with different sectors of government and society, in addition to investment in intelligence, training and use of technology

Comprehensive Security

The Safer DF – Integral Security encompasses coordinated actions with different sectors of government and society, in addition to investment in intelligence, training and use of technology. Divided into five thematic axes, all are aligned with the main needs of society, promoting synergy between governmental and non-governmental bodies and civil society.

Axis 1, the Safer City, develops actions aimed at building safe spaces, preventing and mitigating disasters and calamities. In addition, it works on actions that impact urban mobility.

Defined as a Safer School, Axis 2 seeks prevention actions in the school environment, to guarantee a healthy space with the aim of providing conditions for the full development of children and young people of school age.

The third axis, Safer Citizen, promotes the guarantee of rights, freedoms and guarantees, involving civil society and government sectors, based on the qualified fight against crime through technological intelligence.

The protection and defense of women is one of the priorities for security and the Government of the Federal District (GDF) as a whole. These actions are part of Axis 4, Safer Women. It brings together preventive measures and technologies aimed at protecting women and combating domestic and family violence and femicide.

The fifth axis is the Most Secure Server. The objective is to promote quality of life at work, improving skills and health care for public security professionals.
