On the afternoon of this Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the State Department of Health (Sesau) promoted an important training aimed at coordinators of Epidemiological Surveillance, Endemic Diseases and Primary Care of the First Macroregion of Health in Alagoas. The main objective of the meeting was to disseminate guidelines on the containment of arboviruses in the state, with a focus on actions to combat Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that transmits dengue, zika and chikungunya.

The event took place on the premises of the Centro Universitário de Maceió (Cesmac), located in the Farol neighborhood, in Maceió, and was attended by health professionals engaged in combating arboviruses. The manager of Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases at Sesau, nurse Waldineia Silva, emphasized the importance of integration between Primary Care and Health Surveillance to carry out effective measures in the vector control of Aedes aegypti.

During the training, relevant information was presented about the situation of arboviruses in Alagoas, aiming at the organization and execution of effective measures to guarantee the prevention and combat of the transmitting mosquito. Waldineia Silva highlighted the importance of this joint work with municipalities in the region, bringing together coordinators of Primary Care, Health Surveillance and Endemic Diseases to strengthen actions to combat arboviruses in each location.

Arboviruses are a group of viral diseases transmitted mainly by arthropods, such as mosquitoes and ticks. They can cause a variety of symptoms, from mild fever to more serious complications, some of which are potentially fatal. The best known are dengue, zika and chikungunya, which represent a constant challenge for health authorities.

Given this scenario, the training promoted by Sesau proved to be essential to update and train health professionals involved in combating arboviruses in Alagoas, aiming to protect the population against these diseases that represent a serious risk to public health. Working together and integration between different areas of health are essential for the success of actions to prevent and control these diseases.
