The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj) approved, this Wednesday (27), in the 2nd discussion, a bill that authorizes the creation of a police station specialized in investigating deaths of police officers and public security agents in general linked to the State.
The measure, number 446/2019 and authored by deputy Rosenverg Reis (MDB), now goes to sanction or veto by governor Cláudio Castro, who has up to 15 working days to decide on the matter.
According to the text, the police station must record, investigate, open an investigation and adopt other police procedures necessary to defend public security agents against any type of conduct that places them at risk, aiming for their effective protection.
Expenses arising from the application of the rule will be borne by the State Secretariat of Civil Police, supplemented if necessary.
“Among the main reasons for officer deaths is the recognition of police officers outside of working hours, an alarming fact that transforms their lives into a permanent state of alert, compromising the time they could spend with their family or on other activities”said Rosenverg.
