Guilherme Fontes takes on a role to change the course of the soap opera Renascer

Guilherme Fontes, known for playing the villain Alexandre, in A Viagem (1994), the actor will return to work at Globo with a role in Renascer. The actor was cast to play Buba’s father (Gabriela Medeiros) and will work alongside Malu Galli, who will play the psychologist’s mother.

“I wasn’t expecting the invitation, but I found it very interesting. It’s a great pleasure to make this soap opera, especially this character. And acting with Malu, who is a great actress… All of this is good. It’s a responsibility”, said the actor, who had been away from soap operas since Órfãos da Terra (2019).

Asked about Buba’s plot, the actor highlighted that he thinks it is important that the topic is being addressed. “It’s important to talk about this. I’m interested (in this topic), as a human being, but this is the first time I’ve gotten involved in a topic that unfortunately is still very controversial in society. Every day we see horrible things about these situations, the family’s non-acceptance”, reported the actor who will appear in Renascer in a conversation with O Globo.

Buba will decide to tell everyone who she really is in Renascer, even her parents, who haven’t seen her since before her gender transition. The young woman will return to her hometown with the support of José Augusto (Renan Monteiro), so she can confront her parents after ten years. It will be a shock for the couple to come face to face with their daughter, especially for Guilherme Fontes’ character, who will reject the heiress to the point of throwing her out of the house.

Marked by the role of Alexandre in A Viagem, the actor celebrates his return to Viva. “It’s fantastic. Thirty years later and the character is still on people’s lips. What pleases me most is imagining that other generations are watching. People are taking their families again to see history. And I’m sure it will be a success once again. To this day, when I go out on the street, someone calls me Alexandre,” he said.
