WUntil this Wednesday, around 4,644 migrants crossed the English Channel towards the United Kingdom. This is the record number of crossings made in the first quarter of a calendar year.
On Tuesday, 338 people were detected crossing, bringing the total number of arrivals to the United Kingdom via the English Channel, recorded by the Home Office, to 4,644.
The numbers represent a 23% increase compared to the same time period in 2023, when 3,793 people arrived via the English Channel. In 2022, the number of migrants crossing in the first three months of the year was 4,548.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said last week that he was trying to control the “migration emergency.
It is recalled that on Thursday the British authorities recorded the highest number of crossings made in a single day, with 514 migrants arriving in the United Kingdom via the English Channel.
