Controversy due to religious intolerance

Ludmilla will be legally represented due to religious prejudice in her second show at the Coachella festival, in the United States, on Sunday (21). In Queen of the Favela The artist projected scenes of communities in Rio on a screen and the phrase “Só Jesus expels Tranca Rua from people”, which made the artist the target of criticism on social media.

She went to her X, the old Twitter, this Monday (22), to justify herself. Lud shared the video in full, said that the scene was taken out of context and stated that her proposal with the images was to show the reality of a favela.

“When I said that you would have to make an effort to say bad things about me, I didn’t think you would go that far. Today they took one of the images from the video on the big screen from the show out of context. Queen of the Favelawhich brings different records of spaces and realities that I grew up and lived in for many years, wanting to rewrite its meaning, and putting myself in a position that is completely contrary to mine”, she began.

Queen of the Favela presents my favela, a real favela, naked and raw, where I grew up, but, unfortunately, we experience many ills: black genocide, police violence, poverty, religious intolerance and so many other experiences of people who overcome obstacles, who live in adversity , but doesn’t give up. This involves living in an often hostile environment, where at every turn you have to come across the difficulties of the favela”, he continued.

The singer also says that the presentation did not suggest any interpretation different from what she wanted to convey. “My show begins with a very explicit message, which leaves no doubt about anything! Afterwards, I present the reality over which this speech needs to prevail! About a favela without filters, without gourmetizations, without caricatured representations, a denunciation of the real . I’m here for what’s real, and not this showcase version imported for foreigners to think that this is a space that can be reduced to funk, ass and beer!”, he declares.

Ludmilla says that the end of the presentation also had a message to be conveyed. “I end my show with the sky filled with golden kites, which represent the hope that I want to plant in the hearts of everyone who deals with this reality! This video was made by a black and peripheral photographer/videomaker, to give an inside look out!” he says.

Finally, the artist called for an end to the attacks. “Don’t put me in that place. You know who I am and where I came from. Don’t try to limit where I go. I respect all people as they are, and regardless of any faith, race, gender, sexuality or any particularity they may have. make them unique”, he concluded.
