Sauber (Stake F1 Team) fought hard in the 57 laps of the Formula 1 Miami GP, but despite making up ground, they were unable to secure a place in the top ten, as Zhou Guanyu finished 14th, two places ahead of Valtteri Bottas in 16th.

Alessandro Bravi, team principal: “Today the team tried everything to get a result and you can see that in the tire compound selection, in the different strategies we chose to allow Valtteri and Zhou to find the extra performance that we lost during the finish. of the week. We managed to progress and fight in the mix, but unfortunately, we didn’t have that extra edge needed to be in the top ten. It was a difficult weekend for the team and now we need to reset as we enter the European season at Imola. We will have upgrades coming from Hinwil to help us in the search for points. Even though the first quarter of the season didn’t bring us any points, no one is losing motivation. We saw today that anything can happen, we just need to work hard to put ourselves in a position to make the most of each opportunity,” he concluded.

Bottas: “It was good to try something different with the strategy today, given the position we started from. Unfortunately, the timing of the Safety Car didn’t work out very well for us. We didn’t have the pace we thought we would, so eventually there wasn’t much we could do to progress up the grid. Still, we learned a lot this weekend. We will have the opportunity to try again in two weeks in Imola, on a completely different track layout. We are also prepared to take some new parts there, which should help us even more. As we saw this weekend, the battle around us is extremely fierce and even the smallest margin can make all the difference,” he added.

Zhou: “Today we tried everything we could. It was a difficult race, quite similar to yesterday’s Sprint, with a good first section. Unfortunately, I was stuck behind Alex (Albon), and although I was able to take advantage of our cornering speed advantage, I simply couldn’t match the top speed of his Williams. Even with the DRS available to me, I couldn’t close the gap enough to overtake. We continue to work hard, and unlike some of our rivals, we have not introduced major updates in the last two races, but the team is making significant efforts and we remain confident that our next developments, starting from the next race at Imola, will have the expected performance, allowing us to fight for points”, concluded the Chinese driver.
