The planting of second crop corn has already been completed in the northern region of Mato Grosso do Sul, as determined by the Siga-MS Project (Agribusiness Geographic Information System), on April 19, according to the Casa Rural bulletin released this Wednesday . The central region has an average of 98.9% and the southern region has an average of 98.6%.

The percentage of area planted in the second 2023/2024 harvest is one week behind compared to the second 2022/2023 harvest, considering the same date, April 19. In the previous harvest, the planting operation was already completed during this period.

The estimate is that this grain harvest will be 5.82% smaller compared to the previous cycle (2022/2023), reaching an area of 2.218 million hectares. Production is estimated at 11.4 million tons, a drop of 19.23%, and productivity is forecast at 86.3 bags per hectare, a drop of 14.25%.

Drought affects production

In several regions of the state, including the south, southwest, south-border and southeast, crops faced a period of 10 to 30 days without precipitation. This adverse situation impacted a total area of 432 thousand hectares.

Every week, Aprosoja-MS (Association of Soy and Corn Producers of Mato Grosso do Sul), together with the Government of the State of MS and Famasul, publishes data linked to agriculture in Mato Grosso do Sul. The information is collected by Siga-MS technicians), enriched with information presented by satellite and subsequently disseminated.
