Indigenous Professor from Tocantins wins 3rd place in the National Transformative Educator Award

Indigenous teacher from Tocantins, Jurandi Souza Xerente, wins 3rd place in the National Stage of the Transforming Educator Award. His work “Etnomathemática: kuiwdê nitro ‘tora grande da tora de tora’”, competed in the Elementary Education – Final Years category.

This award, held annually, is an initiative promoted by Sebrae, with the support of Bett Brasil and Instituto Significare. Its purpose is to identify, recognize and publicize innovative educational projects aligned with the principles of Entrepreneurial Education, developed by teachers in public or private educational institutions.

Jurandi Xerente expressed his surprise with the result of the award, but also his gratitude for seeing his project, which intertwines culture and Mathematics, being recognized. “I’m happy that Sebrae is rewarding our work. As an indigenous teacher, I feel fulfilled to contribute to the transformation of education in our municipality,” he added.

Sebrae Entrepreneurial Education

Sebrae’s Entrepreneurial Education Program, created in 2013 and currently called Education that Transforms Program, has already impacted 97% of Brazilian municipalities. With 13.5 million visits to students and more than 1 million teachers assisted, its actions offer training and training, with specific pedagogical tools and methodologies. After the approval of the New National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), Entrepreneurial Education gained relevance in Brazilian formal education, as the development of entrepreneurial skills is aligned with the new Education guidelines in the country, being considered a transversal content in the document.
