This Tuesday (07), the Irmã Arcângela Municipal School was the stage for a significant event for the democratic development of young people: the elections for class leaders. With the support of the Regional Electoral Court of Rio Grande do Norte, through the Voter of the Future Project, the institution promoted an engaging and educational electoral process.

According to professor Maria Conceição Gomes L. da Paz, creator of the initiative at the teaching unit, the project has existed for 10 years. “The My Classroom Has a Leader project has been going on for a decade. I work on this topic in the classroom to highlight the understanding of citizenship that everyone has the right to,” she said.

The objective of the Future Voter Project is to prepare young people to understand and actively participate in the democratic process, from an early age, encouraging a sense of civic responsibility and respect for differences of opinion. “The project itself aims precisely to work on the issue of democracy and the issue of autonomy, because each person chooses their leader according to the proposals. We organize the entire process as an election, so they interact, see each candidate’s proposal, it suits the school environment, and this promotes autonomy, the issue of organization, of each citizen’s thinking, highlights administrative manager Roseane Barbosa Silva das Flores .

During the elections, students were able to exercise their right to vote consciously, electing their class representatives based on proposals and ideas presented by the candidates. The active participation of students reflects the school’s commitment to forming engaged citizens who are aware of their role in society.

For the organizers, the partnership with the Regional Electoral Court is essential to enrich the electoral process, providing students with a real and meaningful experience of democratic participation.

“In all TREs in Brazil, there is a project called Voter of the Future. It is a national project and in this program we are focused within the Judiciary School, on students, both in elementary and high school and university students, everything to get them to have this link with citizenship, from school age. So, we participated in the school elections for guild leaders, we also gave awareness lectures to the students, to understand a little about citizenship, the importance of choosing well, of participating in the entire process”, said the coordinator of the Citizenship and Actions Center Socialist at the TRE-RN Electoral Judiciary School, Andressa Castro de Araújo.
