Every month, 230 buses are set on fire in Rio de Janeiro, according to the union

According to data from Rio Ônibus, a union that brings together companies in the sector, the city of Rio had more than 2,800 buses vandalized last yearwith 145 vehicles being used by criminals as barricades.

“Vandalism goes from the hijacking of a bus to use as barricades and the fire of a vehicle, including graffiti, a torn seat, broken glass”, says Paulo Valente, spokesperson for Rio Ônibus, the entity that launches this Friday (26) the campaign “Who is a creator, does not waver”.

According to union data, the city has an average of 230 vehicles set on fire per month, and losses reach an amount exceeding R$46 million throughout the year. The numbers also show that 6.5 million Rio residents were directly affected by vandalism in 2023.
