Four years after his death, former Formula 1 driver Sir Stirling Moss received, this Wednesday, a memorial that welcomed champions and other notable names in the category. Among those present at the ceremony held at Westminster Abbey in London, England, were three-time champion Sir Jackie Stewart, and the 1992 and 1996 champions, respectively, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill.

The event was also attended by the head of RBR, Christian Horner; former Brawn boss Ross Brawn and Anthony Hamilton, father of seven-time champion Sir Lewis Hamilton. The memorial was only organized in 2024 because Moss, one of the greatest drivers in the history of Mercedes and F1 itself, passed away in April 2020, in the first weeks of the coronavirus pandemic.

Outside the church, which received a total of 2000 guests, cars driven by the Briton throughout his career were exposed to visitors; Among them, the Mercedes 300 SLR, a vehicle from 1955.

The former pilot received a private funeral at Mortalek Crematorium in London in April. However, given the circumstances of the time, only his wife Lady Susie Moss, his children Elliot and Allison and other close family members were present.

At the time, the Briton’s family was already planning an open celebration after the pandemic period. Moss had been fighting the consequences of a lung infection since 2016. He had turned 90 in September 2019 and died at his home in London on Easter Sunday.

The Briton was runner-up in F1 in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958. He was also third in the 1959, 1960 and 1961 World Championships. Until 1991, Sir Stirling Moss was the Briton with the most victories in the category: 16 triumphs in 66 GPs disputed.

Moss was honored with a meeting of generations by Mercedes, in 2013 and 2015. On both occasions, he drove cars for the German team alongside the now veteran Sir Lewis Hamilton. The former pilot, however, stopped making public appearances when his health declined in 2018.
