With a contract only until the end of June, Paulinho revealed that he has been talking to Corinthians about a possible contract renewal. At 35 years old, the player is not thinking about retirement and plans to play for a few more years before continuing to work in football management.

– There was a first conversation with the president and Fabinho. I had spoken to Fabinho a few times, but now I had this conversation where, once again, and I’ve always said this, I leave it to him and my representative to resolve.

– Because it’s something I don’t feel comfortable talking about, because I’ve never done that in my life, in my career, anywhere, here at Corinthians I’ve never done that either. I don’t feel comfortable talking about contractual issues, because I think I have to think about playing football, so I’m waiting for a situation from my agent to give me – said Paulinho.

While Corinthians wants a salary reduction and a shorter contract, the midfielder wants a one and a half year contract without a reduction in his current salary, which was cut by 40% in the last renewal.

– What we had said, that they once gave me, Fabinho, which was the contract until the end of the year, until December. And then it involves other things too, where I went when I had the opportunity to talk to them. Now that I have passed the situation on to my representative, so they can talk and resolve it. As I said, I hope it’s a happy ending for both sides – he said.

Despite having only two months left on Paulinho’s contract, Corinthians is in no rush to resolve the matter. As shown by the ge, the midfielder recently received inquiries from clubs in Asia. In recent weeks there have also been contacts from Türkiye and the United States.

An idol of Corinthians, Paulinho returned to the club at the end of 2021. With the black and white shirt, there are 216 games, 40 goals scored and four titles: he was champion of the Libertadores and the World Cup, in 2012, the Brazilian Championship, in 2011, and the Paulista, in 2013.
