The sixth phase of operation Beholders was launched today, April 3, which arrested, in the interior of the state of Alagoas, a man who had been on the run from justice for around twenty years. The operation was launched by the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG), through the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO) of Montes Claros, by the Military Police of Minas Gerais (PMMG), and by Gaeco of Alagoas, in support to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Monte Azul, a municipality in the North of Minas.

JIMM, now in custody, had an open arrest warrant, accused of being the perpetrator of aggravated homicide, committed in 2004, in Monte Azul. The penalty for the crime can be up to thirty years in prison. He had also already been sentenced to 14 years in prison for aggravated robbery in Nanuque, and also has a conviction by the Military Court.

Furthermore, the man, who at the time of the crime was considered a “feared gunman” in several regions of Minas Gerais, has an extensive criminal record, with records of attempted and completed homicides, qualified robberies, bodily injuries, threats and kidnapping, among other crimes. . To remain unpunished, in Piranhas, he presented himself with a false name and documentation, and was even elected as a deputy councilor in the 2020 municipal elections.

After intelligence work using advanced investigation techniques, the Gaeco de Montes Claros team traveled to the city of Piranhas, in Alagoas, and, in support of the Military Police of that state, it was possible to locate and arrest the fugitive. According to Gaeco de Montes Claros, the success of the operation is due to the work carried out by PMMG, through GCOC-R11, as well as the support provided by the Police Intelligence Unit of the Federal Police Station in Montes Claros.

Now, the MPMG will request the prisoner’s return so that he can answer for the crimes subject to criminal action before the Minas Gerais Court, as well as inform the criminal prosecution bodies in Alagoas to investigate the use of false documents promoted by the fugitive.

Operation Beholders, currently in its sixth phase, was established by Gaeco de Montes Claros with the aim of locating and arresting fugitives from Minas Gerais justice hiding in this or other states of the Federation.
