The photographer from Parintina, Michel Amazonas, opens this Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the exhibition Cidade Refletida. The opening takes place at 6pm on the mezzanine of Super Baranda, in Parintins. The project, which is curated by historian and anthropologist Diego Omar da Silveira, was included in the Aldir Blanc Law notice of the municipality of Parintins in the visual arts – photography category.
The work that gave rise to this exhibition began a few years ago, when Michel began taking photographs, directing his gaze towards everyday life. Before becoming a photographer for Boi-Bumbá Caprichoso, he improved his vision by walking the streets of the city, looking for seemingly banal things and common people. Thus, the images of Manaus, Barreirinha, Nhamundá and Parintins that make up the exhibition emerged.
The long walks and the rain, the comings and goings of cars and motorcycles gradually yielded rich visual material, which now reaches the public organized in a narrative that refers to these places and people in the city that pulse with life and that reveal a beauty different from that consecrated by propaganda or official narratives.
According to Michel Amazonas, the series, like the idea of the exhibition, gradually took shape and only now, when arranged in a sequence, do they gain this meaning, indicating other possible perspectives on the cities.
“Still, they make up a work open to as many interpretations as the public wants, who are the ones who actually establish a way of understanding the photos,” he said.
“Our bet is that people fill in the gaps and establish this relationship between the photographs and their own lives, the trajectories and desires of each person”, adds the curator.
Along the way, the proposal won the support of Erika Baranda, who with this exhibition opens a new exhibition space in the city, on the mezzanine of Super Baranda, in the city center.
