Tipped to be Donald Trump’s running mate in the race for the White House, the governor of South Dakota, Kristi Noem, shows what she came up with in her next book, which will be published next week, in which She brags about having put down her own dog, 14-month-old Cricket, simply for being indomitable.

“I hated that dog”, describes the governor, defining the animal as “untrainable and dangerous”. Anticipated by the British newspaper “The Guardian”, which obtained excerpts from the book, Noem’s detailed and cruel report had a bad impact and affected the American presidential campaign, attracting critical voices from both her supporters and opponents.

Politicians rushed to post photos with their pets and the hashtag “Justice4Cricket” quickly went viral. “She can’t be vice president now. You can’t shoot her dog and then be vice president,” summed up far-right activist Laura Loomer.

The campaign for Joe Biden published photos of the president in the company of Commander, the White House German shepherd who is not an example of good behavior, for having already bitten security agents on more than 24 occasions. That’s not why he was shot down.

A former Republican congresswoman, Noem is a loyal follower of Trump and, like him, collects controversial stories. Recently, she made a video thanking and praising the team of dentists who remodeled her dental arch. The governor is banned from an area equivalent to 15% of the state itself, occupied by four Native American tribes, after she associated tribal leaders with Mexican drug cartels.

Goat slaughtered for ‘bad smell’

In addition to Cricket, Noem says in her memoir that she killed a goat on the family farm because she considered it “bad, disgusting and smelly”.

As for the dog, she claims that was training the Pointer puppy to help her on pheasant huntsbut Cricket turned out to be, in his words, “less than useless as a hunting dog.”

The governor reports that she tried to subdue her, but she behaved like “a trained killer”. The trigger for the decision to kill her was a bite and the attack, to death, on a neighboring family’s chickens. She took Cricket to a quarry and, without hesitation, shot the cub.

He also took the opportunity to deal with the goat, which had a habit of chasing and disturbing his three children. The animal resisted the first shot, and Noem had to return to the truck to get more ammunition and finish the job.

“I think if he were a better politician he wouldn’t tell the story here,” she ponders in the book. Given the impact of her revelations, she said she was supported by a state law that allows the killing of dogs that attack and kill other domestic animals.

The governor defends herself, claiming that she tried to convey an attitude of courage in difficult situations. “Whether managing the farm or politics, I have never passed on my responsibilities to someone else, even if it was difficult and painful. I followed the law, I was a responsible mother and neighbor.” There are controversies, but it remains to be seen whether they will be an obstacle to Trump’s choice.
