In a clash valid for the first game of the quarter-finals of the men’s handball Champions League, the French Montpellier, Brazilian Bryan Monte’s team, defeated the German THW Kiel by the score of 39 to 30. The return match, which will define a place in the semi-final of the tournament, will take place on May 2nd, at 1:45 pm, Brasília-DF time.

Playing as a left-back, Bryan finished the game with four goals scored from five attempted shots. He also provided two assists and received a two-minute penalty throughout the match. The leaders of Montpellier’s attack were Frenchman Yanis Lenne and Swede Lucas Pellas, with eight goals each. On the THW Kiel side, Eric Johansson, from Sweden, also scored eight goals.

With an advantage in the knockout series, Montpellier will be able to define their qualification for the Champions League semi-finals in the next match. The German club will host the duel, which will take place on May 2nd, at 1:45 pm. Whoever finishes ahead on the aggregate score will be classified in the European tournament. Current runner-up in its national league, the French team was a finalist in the competition in 2018, when it lost the title to HBC Nantes, also from France.
