From August 1st, Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) must have an updated registration in the system Labor Electronic Domicile (DET). The tool is used to notify employers about bureaucratic topics and to send documents.

The initial deadline for registration was May 1st, but the date was extended by the government. Next, see what the system is for and how to register.

What is DET?

The Labor Electronic Domicile (DET) is a system designed by the Federal Government and administered by the Labor Inspection Secretariat (SIT) of the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE).

The platform was established in accordance with the provisions of Article 628-A of the CLT (Consolidation of Labor Laws), which proposes to “make the employer aware of any administrative acts, tax actions, subpoenas and notices in general”, in addition to “receiving, by the employer, electronic documentation required in the course of tax actions or presentation of defense of appeal within the scope of administrative processes”.

The system is valid for all people who are subject to labor inspection, regardless of whether they have registered employees or not.

How can MEIs register with DET?

As standard, all CPFs and CNPJs are already registered in the Labor Electronic Domicile (DET). However, it is necessary to perform a first access to update the information, ensuring that any notifications are received.

DET is available online and free of charge. See the step by step:

  • Access the website https://det.sit.trabalho.gov.br
  • Log in using a gov.br account, with silver or gold level authentication.
  • Check if you accessed DET on your CNPJ account. If it is not the desired profile, access the exchange area by clicking on Change Profile, in the top right corner.
  • Update registration data, such as name, email and telephone number.

The Federal Government also makes available to the public a own instruction manual for this registration stage.

Will the MEI that does not register in the system pay a fine?

According to the Federal Government, there is no penalty for Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEI) who do not update their registration in the system. However, those who do not follow system notifications may experience problems.

If the employer is notified by a Labor Tax Auditor and does not return the notification, he or she may be charged and fined based on the Article 630 § 6 of the CLT. This is because, after 15 days, science becomes automatic.
