British police reported that a 13-year-old boy died after being attacked by a man with a sword this Tuesday morning (30) in the northeast region of London. The 36-year-old individual was detained by UK officers.
Authorities were alerted “just before 7 a.m.” to attend a metro station in the Hainault area, where witnesses reported that “several people were shot.” According to police, the man attacked people passing by and two police officers.
“This is a shocking incident. My thoughts are with those affected and their families. I would like to thank the emergency services for their continued response and pay tribute to the extraordinary courage shown by police at the scene,” Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
According to local police, the incident does not appear to be related to terrorist acts.
Incidents involving knives and blades are on the rise in UK. According to official statistics, there was a 7% increase last year, totaling almost 50,000 cases in England and Wales.
In London, there was a 20% increase, with 14,577 incidents recorded, returning to pre-pandemic coronavirus levels.
