The SESI Reference School in Araguaína won 3rd place in the Final Years Elementary Education category, in the state stage of the SEBRAE Transforming Educator Award. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday night, 02/04, in the auditorium of Palácio Araguaia.

The project entitled “Science Club – Scientific Initiation in basic education” is developed and coordinated by professor Lucas Vinícius Rocha Carvalho. Started in 2021, the project has already had a significant impact on students, offering them opportunities to explore the world of science from the early years of basic education.

The Science Club’s main objective is to involve students in the field of scientific education, highlighting that the practice of science is not limited to higher education. From the first years of study, it is possible to carry out activities that explore scientific concepts and stimulate curiosity. By providing this experience from an early age, students are encouraged to develop investigation, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing themselves for the future.

Upon receiving the award, Professor Lucas Vinícius expressed his gratitude and satisfaction: “It is very gratifying to see our work being recognized. It is not easy to organize time after work to carry out this monitoring with students and obtain the necessary subsidies to make the project progress. It is very gratifying to see the result of this teamwork being rewarded in a project like this.”

The award, for Cláudia Denis, education manager at SESI Tocantins, is the result of the combined efforts and dedication of the School’s educational agents. “This award is the result of the teacher’s dedication and the training that SESI has provided to direct the use of STEAM methodologies and active methodologies in which students are encouraged to research, to do it themselves (maker culture). And the teacher followed this path, with scientific initiation, with the science group, and they arrived at this result. So, we see that we are on the right path”, said Claudia Denis.

The Transforming Educator Award, promoted by SEBRAE, aims to value and publicize projects and teachers from all over Brazil that transform education, reinforcing the importance of educators’ engagement in building quality and innovative teaching.
