Characters named after stars and planets? New Globo soap opera has characters named after the stars
The new soap opera ‘Família é Tudo’, which debuted in March on TV Globo, has main characters with names such as Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Pluto, Andromeda and Electra, because the characters’ father was very fond of astronomy. Astronomy researcher Urandir Oliveira explains the meaning of each name and how it can be related to the personality based on the constellation or star associated with the name.
Venus:
Venus is the second planet in the Solar System and is the closest planet to Earth. It is the brightest planet in the sky, appearing as a morning or evening star. Venus is similar in structure and size to Earth, but it is the hottest planet. Played in the soap opera, by Nathalia Dill, Vênus is a workaholic, dedicated and with a great sense of justice.
The name Venus means ‘love’. “The name Venus is associated with the brightness, golden color and heat of the planet, people with this name tend to be happier, stronger and warriors” explains Urandir Oliveira.
Jupiter:
Jupiter is the fifth and largest planet in the Solar System. It is a gas giant that has more than 2.5 times the mass of all the other planets combined. The researcher says that people with this name are open-minded and confident, however, they have a tendency to concentrate on excesses, leading to feelings of dissatisfaction after achieving a goal, “although achievement brings joy, a feeling of emptiness soon arises.” .”
Thiago Martins plays Jupiter in the soap opera and is his grandmother’s favorite, a womanizer and with a good heart.
Neptune:
Neptune is the eighth planet in the Solar System, the furthest from the Sun and the coldest. It was discovered in 1846 and since then has completed only one orbit around the Sun, which occurred between 1846 and 2011. It is known for its blue color, which is due to the presence of methane in its atmosphere. In ‘Família é Tudo’, Paulo Lessa loses his memory after being run over by Venus, he is mysterious and lonely.
“The person with the name Neptune can be characterized by their sensitivity and idealism” says Urandir.
Pluto:
In the soap opera, Pluto is a responsible and dedicated young man, played by Isacque Lopes. Pluto was discovered in 1930, it is a dwarf planet in the Solar System, that is, it is smaller in size than the other planets, it was discovered in 1930, it was previously considered the ninth planet, but in 2006 it was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union .
“The name Pluto is not very well-directed, however, they are people related to power, transformation and regeneration” confirms the astronomy researcher.
Andromeda:
Andromeda is a spiral galaxy, being the closest galaxy to the Milky Way, located approximately 2.50 million light years away from Earth. Played by Ramille, she has unshakable, dramatic self-esteem and dreams of being a singer.
“The characteristics of a person with the name Andromeda include being brilliant, having a great ability to adapt to changes, being confident, determined and creative.” explains Urandir Oliveira.
Electra:
Electra could be the giant, blue star in the constellation Taurus or the large asteroid located outside the main belt. In the plot, Juliana Paiva is determined, fair and down to earth, before being unjustly arrested, she was happy and outgoing.
The name Electra means “radiant woman”, a sensitive, diplomatic and fair person. Urandir comments: people with this name are helpful and don’t like to cause interruptions, they avoid leadership roles and try not to be the center of attention, they are always worried about how they are seen.” concludes researcher Urandir.
