Ex-Cruzeiro has contract terminated for ‘flirting’ with teammate’s girlfriend

Former Cruzeiro full-back, Miguel Samudio, 37, had his contract terminated by Liverpool after being one of the team’s highlights in winning the Uruguayan Championship last season.

In a surprising decision, according to the Uruguayan press, Samudio was dismissed from the club after “flirting” with the girlfriend of defender Ignacio Rodríguez, 20 years old. According to
journalist Martin Cal Hobinchet, from Carve Deportiva radio, the Paraguayan full-back would have sent messages to the woman with the intention of having an emotional bond.

Until he terminated his contract, Samudio was an absolute starter for Emiliano Alfaro’s team and, last year, he was an important player in Liverpool’s first title in the history of the Uruguayan Championship. In the league final, “Los Negriazules” beat the giants Peñarol.

Because of his good performance, Samudio renewed his contract with Liverpool until December of this year. Now, he will have to wait for the transfer window to open to agree with a new club.

Last year, Samudio played 40 games for Liverpool and scored two goals. In 2024, there were ten games and no goals scored.

Hired in 2014, Samudio was Brazilian champion with Cruzeiro. A reserve during the season, the Paraguayan participated in 24 matches for the Cruzeiro team and scored two goals.
