The State Environmental Institute (Inea) began, this Monday (1st), the use of 96 portable body cameras and vehicle GPS for environmental inspection activities in the state of Rio de Janeiro. With a total investment of R$1.2 million, the contract provides for the acquisition of 142 cameras, which will be used by agents from Inea’s Post-license and Inspection department, as well as by the organization’s eight regional superintendencies.

Governor Cláudio Castro highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that the placement of the cameras aims to protect both employees and citizens. Castro highlighted transparency in public action as fundamental and praised the adoption of technology and good methods as a positive step.

With the implementation of cameras, environmental inspection actions can be monitored in real time by Inea’s internal affairs department, presidency and boards, with access via Web Browser by the online manager. Furthermore, the images will be stored for different periods, one year for recording incidents, 60 days for routine captures and permanent for sensitive operations.

The Secretary of State for the Environment and Sustainability, Bernardo Rossi, highlighted that the initiative represents a significant advance for Inea, as it aims to ensure more transparency and effectiveness in environmental inspections. He highlighted the state government’s commitment to protecting natural resources and promoting sustainability in a responsible manner and in accordance with current legislation.

The president of Inea, Renato Jordão, announced that the remaining 72 cameras will be distributed throughout the state, 24 of which will be located in the capital. He emphasized the importance of transparency, responsibility and dedication in building a more sustainable future for future generations. Inea’s action demonstrates its commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring the correct application of environmental laws in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
