A man died while trying to turn off the electricity in his house that was flooded by the rain. The death occurred on Monday night, the 29th, in the Vila Nova neighborhood, in Pantano Grande. Two other people died in Rio Grande do Sul as a result of the rain, both in the municipality of Paverama.
According to the mayor of Pantano Grande, Mano Paganotto, more than 200 people are homeless in the city. According to him, the municipality is in a condition similar to a “public calamity”, as the city is “under water”. City Hall and the local Civil Defense mobilized all their teams.
Homeless families are being advised to go to the Pantano Grande school gym, in the Farol neighborhood. Donations such as non-perishable food, cleaning and hygiene materials, warm clothing, mattresses and blankets are being collected at the Praça Kiosk.
At the moment, the guidance is that city residents remain at home.
