The first stage of the Participatory Budget (OPA 2024-2025) of the State Government received 1,255 proposals, sent by 501 entities registered in Teresina, Parnaíba, Picos, Piripiri and Floriano. The program proposes popular participation in government decisions on resource investments and its first stage ended this Wednesday (27).

The program’s technical team, led by the State Department of Planning (Seplan) and the Department of Social Relations (Seres), evaluates the experience as a success. The municipalities exceeded the expectation of participation of neighborhood communities, through their representatives.

For the Secretary of Planning, Washington Bonfim, the numbers demonstrate the reach of the program and the population’s engagement. “We made significant progress in the number of entities and proposals launched in relation to last year’s numbers, there were 44.38% in the number of participating entities in Teresina and Parnaíba, taking into account the first edition of the program”, assesses the manager.

The northern region follows in second place, with 149 registrations. The cities of Parnaíba, Picos, Piripiri and Floriano registered, respectively, 164, 135, 228 and 113 proposals.

“We would like to thank all the entities that were committed and engaged in organizing their proposals within the community”, highlights the Secretary of Social Relations, Núbia Lopes. “The next stage will be the assessment of the feasibility of the proposals, followed by the moment of popular mobilization, through the entities, so that the viable proposals are implemented in the following year.”

Now, the proposals will undergo analysis and validation by the competent bodies and will be made available for popular voting from June 7th – all through WhatsApp, Social Colab App and OPA Vans. At this stage, anyone over the age of 16 and with an Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) can participate by choosing their preferred proposal. The chosen ideas will be forwarded for inclusion in the state’s 2025 Annual Budget.
