To reinforce the defense of women’s rights and gender equality, Vitória City Hall announced the creation of two new management bodies within the municipal administration: the Undersecretariat for Women and the Women’s Protection Management. The initiative seeks to consolidate public policies aimed at women, with a focus on combating gender-based violence and helping women achieve greater financial independence.

According to the city hall, the Undersecretariat for Women will assume a central role in the elaboration, coordination and implementation of public policies aimed at women. To achieve this, partnerships may be established with public bodies, civil society entities and private companies.

The Women’s Protection Management will focus its efforts on the design and execution of initiatives in collaboration with the bodies of the Secretariat of Citizenship, Human Rights and Labor (Semcid), in addition to other municipal departments. This involves the development of educational projects, support for the Reference and Assistance Center for Women in Situations of Violence (Cramsv), the implementation of prevention and care policies for women in situations of violence, among other actions.

“The creation of the Undersecretariat for Women reflects and reaffirms our administration’s commitment to protecting and promoting women’s rights, to combating all forms of gender-based violence, including psychological, property and any other violence that affects them,” said the Mayor Lorenzo Pazolini, at the launch of the subsecretariat, last Thursday (28).

“The creation of the Undersecretariat for Women represents a notable advance for Vitória, especially in our battle against domestic and family violence, something intrinsically linked to the current context. When we join forces, victory inevitably follows”, highlighted Hermínia Azoury, judge of Law of the Espírito Santo Court of Justice.
