‘I often say that I’m still a first-time mother’, says Claudia Raia, in an interview with iG Delas

With a 40-year career, Claudia Raia has taken on many roles, but perhaps the most challenging — and also exciting — of them was becoming Luca’s mother, at 56 years old. Today, at 57, she divides her care routine for her little one with rehearsals for the musical ‘Tarsila, the Brazilian’, in which she plays the painter Tarsila do Amaral.

Now a mother of three, the actress had a chat with her iG Delas
about motherhood and reflected on what it was like to be a mother again after her oldest children, Enzo (27) and Sophia (21), were adults. Check it out below:

IG DELAS: What was it like being a mother for the third time, after your older children were already adults?

Claudia Raia:
It was a moment of renewal. When I thought I knew everything about this subject, Luca’s arrival came to show that I had much more to learn. I often say that I am still a first-time mother, after all, no experience is the same, and things have changed a lot. For example, in my first pregnancies, there weren’t that many baby care products available.

What tips do you believe you learned in your first and second maternity wards that you now take into your third? Has much changed?

Look, there are many! I am and continue to be very curious, and, even after two pregnancies, there is a lot of news! Nowadays, there are even apps to help with this care routine. A valuable tip is freedom from guilt. Sometimes, we go back to work, and society judges us for it. But in the end, it’s not about that at all, it’s much more about the quality of time we spend together and how I manage it.

As soon as you announced what Luca’s name would be, internet users joked that you would make the name become a trend among babies, just like what happened with “Enzo” and “Sophia” in the past. What do you think about this?

I have a lot of fun with it. We didn’t think about launching a trend when we made this choice, but I find these comparisons funny and I’m happy that it’s serving as inspiration.

What it’s like to be with the season of “Tarsila” on air, with a small baby. How do you reconcile?

My oldest children were born and grew up in this routine — and with the youngest it wouldn’t be and isn’t being very different. In fact, during rehearsals for the play, he would visit us sometimes, and his presence was a great celebration! The routine is challenging, I am on show from Thursday to Sunday, and on Saturdays and Sundays we present two shows per day. But I try to make the most of my moments with him, so we have plenty of quality time together. The moment of bathing in the morning, for example, is sacred and I make a point of being very present, playing with it, giving a massage… Even with work and the rush of everyday life, I feel that I made the right choice and consciously, because when I return home, the feeling of duty accomplished remains and does not cancel out my motherhood, in fact, it gives me more strength to move forward with raising Luca.
