A custom at Sony gaming conferences was the presence of Call of Duty. For the last ten years, the Activision franchise had a marketing agreement with PlayStation, but now that contract has ended, freeing the IP to be explored by Microsoft. And apparently, the North American giant is already planning to showcase the new shooter at the Xbox Showcase on June 9th.

Xbox promises a conference with work from its subsidiaries, as well as games from partner companies (third-party). Shortly after the event, the company will bring a Direct with a “special deep-dive of the next chapter of a beloved franchise”. Based on these quotes and a report from The Verge, it is the new CoD, which would be Black Ops: Gulf War.

The Xbox Showcase will take place on a Tuesday at 2 pm — Brasília time. Tom Henderson, journalist at Insider Gaming, predicts the launch of the supposed Gulf War for October.

Sony stands to lose good money without Call of Duty marketing

Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it was already known that Call of Duty made a lot of money for PlayStation. In the legal dispute over approval of the purchase, it was revealed that the shooter generated a good income — the exact numbers were covered, but there is talk of around a billion dollars spent on hardware, peripherals, subscriptions and games related to the franchise.
