247 – French President Emmanuel Macron, during his official visit to Palácio do Planalto this Thursday (28), addressed the situation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing the need for “responsibility and preparation” in the face of a possible escalation in the conflict.

Asked about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, Macron reiterated France’s position of seeking dialogue, but highlighted the importance of not being interpreted as weak in the face of a continued escalation of the conflict. “We have to be responsible, but not weak. I am in the same position. France wants dialogue, but we want to say that we are not weak. If an endless escalation happens, we have to organize ourselves, so as not to just regret it,” declared Macron.

These statements come amid fear over the possibility of France sending troops to the conflict. A month ago, there was a conference held at the Élysée Palace, in which several European countries committed to supplying medium and long-range missiles and bombs to support the eastern European country. However, despite international support efforts, the French president highlighted the need to be prepared for more extreme scenarios, reiterating his commitment to ensuring that Russia does not emerge victorious from the conflict.

On the other hand, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in his participation in the event in Brasilia today, approached the issue from a different perspective, citing a certain “nervousness” on the part of the French people regarding the situation in Ukraine. “Being in Brazil, I am not forced to have the same nervousness that the French people have,” stated Lula, suggesting a different perception of the context of the conflict from the Brazilian perspective.
