Data from the first quarter of 2024 released this Friday, 26th, by the analysis company Canalys, indicate that the Apple fell to fifth place in the world’s largest smartphone market, with Huawei taking the top spot.

Huawei shipped 11.7 million smartphones in China in the first three months of the year, a 70% increase compared to the previous year, when the company was still recovering from sanctions imposed by the US that began in 2019.

Apple fell from first to fifth place, with a 25% reduction in its sales to the Chinese market. There were 10 million units shipped in the first quarter. In the same period of the previous year, 13.3 million units were shipped. China represents 20% of sales of all Apple products and is a strategic market for the American giant.

Despite the drop, the top positions compete with a small margin of difference between them, separated by a few hundred thousand units shipped.

Oppo ended the quarter in second place, followed by Honor and Vivo.

The Chinese market showed no variation this quarter compared to last year, with approximately 67 million smartphones sold in both periods.

Huawei’s growth is related to the launch of the Mate 60 line, a high-end device entirely produced in China with 5G capacity similar to the most recent iPhones.
