Five dolphins were found abandoned, on Tuesday, 7th, at a luxury resort in Nassau, in the Bahamas. The animals were found by the NGO Dolphin Projectwho visited the place after reporting it.
The hotel in question was closed during the covid-19 pandemic. Before the closure of activities, however, the establishment had already been reported for mistreatment. Since 2018, eight dolphins have died of hunger there, according to Ric O’Barry, founder of the organization.
On its Instagram, Dolphin Project published a video showing the situation of the animals in the abandoned resort. According to the NGO, they are underweight and suffering from malnutrition and dehydration.
There is only one caretaker on site, without the support of veterinarians. Additionally, the property is “full of trash” and unprotected from the elements, such as hurricanes. The water the dolphins are in is also a problem, as its deepest point is two meters.
Also in the statement, Dolphin Project highlighted the need to rescue the five animals, before they die from hunger.
