The Cosme e Silva Emergency Room, located in the west of Boa Vista, provided 66,623 consultations in the first four months of 2024.

The unit, which is one of the State’s references in initial urgent and emergency medical care, meets the demand of a large part of the Capital’s population, with an average of 600 daily visits. And it operates 24 hours a day, from Monday to Sunday.

“Our unit sees more than 600 patients per day, and that number continues to increase. During the period from January to April, we observed an increase in diagnosed cases of pneumonia, bronchitis and tuberculosis”, highlighted the general director of PACS, Moema Gonçalves.

The dry period contributed significantly to the increase in the volume of care at the unit, mainly due to demands related to respiratory crises.

“This was the most atypical year, compared to other years. It was a very dry period, with an increase in the number of fires, which caused many respiratory cases, both flu and throat infections, due to the dryness of the environment and lack of humidity. People with asthma, rhinitis and bronchitis were also affected during this period”, highlighted Moema.

SERVICES

Located on Rua Delman Veras, in the Pintolândia neighborhood, Pronto Atendimento Cosme e Silva offers a series of services to the population, including x-ray, electrocardiogram, vaccination room, suture room, plaster room with orthopedic evaluation and treatment room of patients with malaria for a more accurate diagnosis.

The unit also has a room for the treatment of patients with malaria, where examinations are carried out for a more accurate diagnosis of the disease.

In addition, the unit has a stabilization room, where patients can remain under observation for up to 24 hours before being transferred to a back hospital, and a procedure room where abscesses are drained.

It is also important to clarify that the unit is not responsible for the dressing service, an exclusive function of Basic Health Units. However, the service was implemented as a way to meet the needs of SUS users who seek support for pain relief.

After receiving care at reception, the patient is taken to the triage room, where they receive a priority classification based on the severity of their condition.

The colors green and blue, for example, are assigned to less serious cases. Demand is met in quick rooms, places that cover patients with mild pain, stiff neck, migraine, fever without the presence of vital changes, colds and viruses, nausea and dizziness, controlled bleeding, asthma not diagnosed as a crisis. , between others.

The colors yellow and orange are given for cases of moderate urgency. Patients who experience fainting, moderate pain, intense vomiting, panic attacks, moderate bleeding, high blood pressure, changes in vital signs and other clinical conditions receive this classification.

The most serious or life-threatening cases are classified by the color red. This means that the patient will require immediate care, such as burns on more than 25% of the body, respiratory problems, chest pain related to shortness of breath, seizures, traumatic brain injury, suicide attempt, cardiorespiratory arrest, uncontrollable bleeding and others.

“We have a multidisciplinary team made up of physiotherapists, nurses, nursing technicians, psychologists, social workers, doctors and dentists”, added the director.
