Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes Max Verstappen deserves greater recognition for his talent and current dominance in Formula 1.
Winner for the fourth time in five races held in 2024, Verstappen comfortably leads the championship and is on track for his fourth consecutive title. His impeccable performance, with just one retirement due to technical problems in Australia, impresses Horner.
“He is in fantastic shape. He is in tune with the car and the team, and enjoying the races,” said the Red Bull manager.
After Ferrari’s one-two finish in Australia, the Scuderia looked to be a real threat to Red Bull. However, the RB20 upgrade proved unbeatable at Suzuka and Verstappen won comfortably in Shanghai, opening up a comfortable lead in the championship.
Horner countered criticism that Verstappen’s dominance makes F1 boring and stressed that a driver’s supremacy does not last indefinitely.
“We have to value success. Max is a special talent. It’s a golden moment for him. As we’ve seen with other drivers, this doesn’t last forever. It’s about enjoying the moment, being in the present. There is no guarantee that we will be able to provide him with a car like this every year for the next five. So it’s about doing what you can, while you can”, concluded Horner.
