Right at the start of the game, Giovanna Fernandes opened the scoring in Guayaquil. After three minutes, the Brazilian sent a shot from outside the area, to score a great goal, covering the goalkeeper and sending the ball into the corner. The second came at the end of the first half, again with a shot from outside the area. Ana Flávia shot from distance and the Argentine goalkeeper failed to save.

In the second half, the rain pressed down on the Ecuadorian coastal city, with some of the stadium’s lights going out. With the accumulation of water on the field, as well as the light decreasing towards the end of the afternoon, the referee stopped the game 20 minutes into the second half. After 50 minutes of play stopped, the match was resumed, but with no change in the score.

Brazil’s next game in the U20 South American Championship will be on Thursday (25), against Paraguay. A victory against the Paraguayans could already guarantee the Brazilian team’s classification in the U20 World Cup, depending on the other results of the round.
