PSV is Dutch champion and seeks to equal Cruyff’s Ajax record | international football

With two rounds to spare, PSV secured the Dutch Championship title and is now looking for a record. Confirmation of the achievement came after a 4-2 victory against Sparta Rotterdam, this Sunday. The team of Brazilians André Ramalho and Mauro Júnior lifted the league trophy for the 25th time and is aiming for the best campaign in history.

PSV has 87 points in 32 rounds. If they manage to win two wins in the remaining two games, they will reach 93 points, with 30 wins, three draws and one defeat. Only Ajax in 1971/72, led by legendary Johan Cruyffhad similar performance.

Peter Bosz’s PSV are also trying to break the record for the highest goal difference in the tournament. With 88 (107 goals scored and only 19 conceded), he is two behind Ajax 1997/98, who finished with 90 positive goals in statistics.

The title ends a six-year drought and is the first in the league for defender André Ramalho, 32, and left-back Mauro Júnior, 25, with the club’s shirt. They celebrated the achievement.

Eliminated by Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 of the Champions League, PSV only lost to NEC in the current season’s Eredivisie. Vice-leader, Feyenoord, has 75 points and is led by Arne Slot, who is expected to replace Jürgen Kloop at Liverpool from 2024/25.

PSV will end the season against Fortuna Sittard, away from home, and will host RKC Waalwijk in the last match.
