He has played the killer clown Art since 2016, however, actor David Howard Thornton fell ill while filming a scene in Terrifier 3 because he was too “horrible”.

The second film made some viewers feel sick at the cinema, while the third made its main actor feel unwell. David Howard Thornton, who plays the clown Art in the horror saga Terrifier, almost threw up while filming a scene in Terrifier 3.

The website Discussing Film revealed that the third film features one of the “most insanely horrific scenes in the Terrifier franchise” and that the footage “almost made actor David Howard Thornton vomit.” Thornton, however, is no stranger to bloody sequels, having played the sadistic killer since the first film, released in 2016.

Again directed by Damien Leone, the original creator of this saga of B movies, Terrifier 3 has a bigger budget than its predecessors. Therefore, there will be more visual effects and more liters of blood.

More budget for more blood

The first film, Terrifier, was released in 2016 on VOD to general indifference. Released in limited release in US theaters in October 2022, Terrifier 2 generated a buzz after causing nausea and vomiting during screenings.

The specialized press quickly became interested in the story and the film became a “rite of passage” for horror fans. The feature film was released in theaters on January 11, 2023. With a budget of just $250,000, Terrifier 2 grossed $15 million worldwide.

A third part was therefore announced. Producer Priscilla Smith said at the time that Terrifier 3’s budget would be bigger than the previous films: “The budget will be much bigger to give the director more creative freedom and allow him to be as bold as possible. And, jokes aside, we’re gunning for the Oscar this year.”

In turn, the director and creator of the trilogy emphasized: “Terrifier 3 will be an addition that will push the boundaries of the horror genre, continuing the uncompromising exploits that fans of the franchise have come to expect and love. If you thought Art’s reign of terror in the second episode was extreme, you haven’t seen anything yet.”

And obviously, the actor behind the clown mask hadn’t seen anything like it either. For the more adventurous, Terrifier 3 will be released in theaters on October 30th. The action takes place at Christmas.
