Tandara’s participation in the Brazilian Master Volleyball Championship appears to have been costly. According to journalist Demétrio Vecchioli, the sentence for the athlete, already suspended from the courts for doping, could double to eight years.
Last weekend, Tandara competed and won the main category of the Brazilian Master for RS Voleibol. The Brazilian Doping Control Authority (ABCD) investigates the presence of the opponent and treats it as a violation of the suspension imposed in May 2022. If convicted again, the player could be forced to stay out of the sport until 2029.
Two years ago, the Anti-Doping Sports Court convicted and suspended Tandara from volleyball for four years for using Ostarine, an anabolic steroid that modulates metabolism and helps in the process of gaining muscle mass.
ABCD found the substance in the athlete’s body in an examination carried out before embarking to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. In Japan, the opposite was suspended preventively.
What weighs against Tandara
The Brazilian Master is not administered by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV), the highest entity in the country, but by the National Sports Association. Still, some factors weigh against Tandara.
The first issue is that she worked with volleyball professionals. Setter Fabíola, from Mackenzie, center Mari Martins and winger Mari Blum also defended RS Voleibol.
Another point concerns the fact that Tandara has played for clubs affiliated with CBV. The opposing team trains at the José Liberatti gym, where Osasco plays its matches.
Finally, the city of Santos, with public resources, finances the competition.
