Waiting list
Around 25 thousand cases are on the waiting list to access specialized component medicines – medicines in general, expensive and long-term use – according to data presented this Wednesday by the representative of the State Department of Health Grazielle Dias da Silva, during public hearing at the Legislative Assembly. In her testimony, she indicated, among the causes, the lack of personnel to analyze the documents, but other participants in the hearing at the Health Commission revealed that for at least a year the Government has increased bureaucracy for requests, which has hindered the flow.
“Immunosuppressants” are among the highest demand on the waiting list
Among the processes are those that deal with medicines for transplanted people, known as “immunosuppressants”, whose main objective is to prevent the rejection of the organs received. Hearing participants warned that such medications need to be taken throughout life after surgery, and stopping treatment or reducing the recommended dosage can cause organ loss and have fatal results.
