The new Secretary of Military Police, Colonel Marcelo de Menezes Nogueira, took office this Wednesday (24), in a ceremony at the Dom João VI Military Police Academy, in Sulacap, in the West Zone of Rio.
Marcelo Menezes was appointed last Thursday (18), replacing then secretary Luiz Henrique Marinho Pires. The colonel has been with the corporation for 34 years and has been in command of several units, having experience as head of planning, intelligence, operational and administrative sessions.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Secretary of State for Public Security, Victor Santos, apologized to the now former secretary of military police, Colonel Luiz Henrique Marinho Pires, for the way in which the change in command of the PM took place. According to him, this was not how things had to happen.
“It wasn’t what was planned, it wasn’t what was agreed and my management as a police officer has always been about justice, honor and truth, and humility too. I do this publicly and I apologize to you and the doors are open to the secretariat and your entire team. Thank you very much, everyone be with God,” he said.
Governor Cláudio Castro also thanked all the work carried out by Colonel Luiz Henrique Marinho, but recalled that the positions are temporary.
Because the secretary appoints, the governor chooses. Why not the indicator? Because it’s Menezes who I wanted. So the nomination, the secretary gave him the power to nominate. But all appointments are made by the state governor. And this role is mine and I won’t give it up. And the person I wanted was Colonel Menezes. So we reached a consensus and I nominated whoever I wanted.
