Court sentences accused of beating trans woman in AL to 47 years in prison

The defendants accused of beating to death a trans woman, identified as Grazyele Junqueiro, in July last year, in Santana do Ipanema, were convicted of the crime of robbery (robbery followed by death). The trial of Kayque Silva dos Santos and Genilson de Melo Viana took place on April 25th of this year.

During the trial, witnesses and defendants were heard, in addition to the explanation of the defense and the accusation. The magistrate responsible for the case decided to sentence Kayque Silva and Genilson de Melo to more than 47 years in prison together. According to the sentence, the defendants acted extremely violently, resulting in serious injuries to the victim, who suffered multiple blows to the head.

Kayque Silva was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 118 fine days, each worth 1/30 of the minimum wage in force at the time. Genilson de Melo, on the other hand, had his sentence set at 27 years, 8 months and 15 days of imprisonment in addition to 164 fine days, each worth 1/30 of the minimum wage in force at the time.

Grazy was 38 years old and worked at a Basic Health Unit (UBS) in the Community of Lajeiro Grande. She was found by co-workers lying on the floor at home, unconscious in a pool of blood.

At the time, defendant Kayque Silva confessed to the police that he invited his friend, Genilson de Melo, to collect an alleged debt from the victim of R$900, with whom he had an emotional relationship.
